The last two Decembers following the market crash of 07 have been slow for the hospitality sector. 2010 is shaping up to be a big one though, with many businesses booking large company events and dinners across the country. Online booking service BookaTable said it had registered a 73% rise in bookings, with Friday 10 December as the most popular day for celebrating.
It seems that the traditional Christmas Turkey dinner is a thing of the past though with Italian being the most popular cuisine being planned for dinner (According to BookATable). Jenna Bird marketing director for the Tragus Group that includes Strada, Bella Italia and Café Rouge said “Interestingly, it seems our customers are not only ordering from a Christmas menu, but plenty are requesting Italian menu options instead. It might be that they are happy to wait till Christmas Day for their turkey with all the trimmings.
As well as avoiding the sprouts and Christmas pudding UK businesses are also looking at new and refreshing ideas to entertain their staff. Large group events are popular in the big cities with London hosting a score of Ball’s and Gala style events where you can book out the whole even or individual tables. With companies still trying to save money on their events these pre-planned gigs offer an easy solution. Checkout events in London such as The Bootleggers Ball a themed swinging 20’s Cocktail party in Kings Cross. Or All Things Ice escape the snow outside to an indoors winter wonderland with canapé reception 3 course gourmet meal and dancing.
If having someone prepare your dinner for you is far too easy you could try London’s Underground Cookery School where you will be taught how to prepare you own 3 course restaurant quality meals from experienced chefs then get to enjoy your dishes with fine wines. If you have even more energy than that you could make your very own office pop music video at Adventure Connections. Team Building days are becoming much more popular as Christmas events, combining a fun day with important skill building.
Celia Pronto, managing director – consumer marketing for BookaTable, said: “The Christmas party is back with a bang in 2010 as it seems businesses are able to begin rewarding their employees again. Although many places are now fully booked, those still looking can find some fantastic deals.”
